USASOA 'Homeless and Elderly Veterans Outreach Programs - Sandwich Saturdays

  • United Soldiers and Sailors of America 300 New Jersey Avenue Northwest Washington, DC, 20001 United States (map)

OUR HOMELESS AND ELDERLY VETERANS OUTREACH PROGRAMS CONSIST OF TWO SEPARATE VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES: each of the two events last approximately 2 to 3 hours and we ask that you kindly sign up using the form below so that we can reach out to you to discuss the opportunities in advance and ask which of the two individual events you would like to join. Both volunteer opportunities are at the same time but in two different locations: Sandwich Saturdays is held in the kitchen of our Capitol Hill office, two blocks from Union Station and the sandwiches are passed out to homeless veterans in the Capitol Hill, DC area. The second volunteer opportunity, Feeding Homeless Elderly Veterans takes place in an onsite, transitional housing unit. We prepare the food and serve the elderly veterans in the dining area of that facility. Thank you for your interest and we hope to hear from you.

SANDWICH SATURDAYS

On Saturday mornings, our wonderful volunteers gather in the kitchen of our Capitol Hill office to prepare sandwiches, snacks and water to homeless veterans on the streets. Our mission extends beyond providing food and water; we aim to offer the care, compassion, and comfort they have rightfully earned and deserve. During the winter, we assemble and distribute 'Winter Survival Kits' and make hot soup to accompany the sandwiches.

FEEDING HOMELESS ELDERLY VETERANS

In addition to our Sandwich Saturdays, we also make and serve food to homeless elderly veterans living in a transitional housing unit in Washington, DC. This volunteer opportunity also begins at 10:30 am and ends around 1 pm.

PLEASE COMPLETE THE FOR BELOW TO VOLUNTEER AT ONE OF THE TWO OPPORTUNITIES ABOVE.
